Dear Community,
On the weekend of our WIS Graduation Ceremony and just prior to this Monday evening’s Grade 5 PYP Exhibition, we are pleased to also celebrate a playwright who has put words to rites of passage for the past 500 years.
Today and tomorrow, on behalf of the Portuguese Embassy in Namibia and Camōes I.P, we would like to invite you to a play which celebrates the 500th anniversary of the birth of LUIS VAZ DE CAMŌES.
"OS LUSÍADAS COM UMA PERNA ÀS COSTAS"
BY TEATRO DO BOTÃO
AUDITORIUM , WINDHOEK INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Performance Times:
18h00 on Friday 17 May
16h00 on Saturday 18 May
Doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance.
The play is a comedy for all and more appropriate for adults and children older than 12. It focuses on Luís Vaz de Camões' epic poem, the "Lusíadas". This is the Portuguese epopee par excellence. Respecting the structure of the poem and performed by professionals from Portugal, the play simplifies and updates history so that, in a relaxed way, it creates a joyful and informative show.
The shows will be subtitled in English and are open free of charge. Here is another passage from the great poet.
“Love is a fire that burns unseen,
A wound that aches yet isn't felt,
An always discontent contentment,
A pain that rages without hurting,
A longing for nothing but to long,
A loneliness in the midst of people,
A never feeling pleased when pleased,
A passion that gains when lost in thought.”
― Luís Vaz de Camões
Enjoy your weekend!
