Building on Excellence: Windhoek International School Announces 2026 IB MYP eAssessment Results

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Windhoek, Namibia – 5 August 2026

WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA —

Windhoek International School (WIS) is proud to announce the results for the 2026 International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) eAssessments. The IB MYP eAssessment offers an externally moderated, globally benchmarked qualification recognized internationally and by the UK’s ECCTIS as equivalent to traditional IGCSE grades.

Unlike traditional high-stakes exams focused on rote memorization and short-term recall, the MYP eAssessment evaluates students’ ability to analyze complex problems and communicate their critical thinking. The MYP eAssessment utilises both on-screen and portfolio components. Students synthesize content and apply their knowledge to real-life situations.

The IB scores out of a maximum of 7 per subject. In this year's examinations, WIS students achieved:

  • An average total score of 38, beating the global world average of 36.4.

  • The highest individual score achieved this year was an outstanding 51 points out of a possible 56.

As the capstone experience of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, all students undertake the Personal Project, where all students independently explore a personal passion and produce a tangible outcome, demonstrating the critical thinking, creativity, and self-management skills developed over the span of their 9th and 10th grade educational experience.

Margarete Reiff, WIS High School Principal and College Counsellor, believes that the MYP eAssessment serves as a valuable and meaningful qualification:

"Seeing our second-ever cohort navigate these assessments with confidence reaffirms our school’s transition to the MYP. The results not only reflect academic rigor, but also ensure our students remain prepared for success in their post-16 academic pathways. Unlike some schools which undertake the MYP eAssessment, WIS is an inclusive school - and so these results are especially impressive. The context is important. In an era disrupted by Artificial Intelligence, the MYP’s curriculum and assessment are future-ready."

WIS MYP Coordinator Adrian von Wrede-Jervis noted:

The success of our students is built on four values we have embedded into our MYP programme. We value relevancy – the content and concepts we explore in class are chosen to fit our students' lived experiences, drawing on examples from their contemporary context. We value Meaning-Making by supporting students in how they articulate the change in their personal understanding of their world. We value Skills, through embedding them into every assessment - guiding students not only in the content of the piece, but in, for example, the presentation, the collaboration, or the research that they need to succeed. Lastly we value Action; At WIS students find practical ways to respond ethically to the material that they are engaged with. It is this holistic approach to learning that we celebrate today. Our students are growing into knowledgeable learners, as evidenced by their grades; they are also maturing into ethical citizens, shaped by a personal, meaningful connection to what they've learned. This is how the MYP strongly prepares our students for the demands of the IB Diploma Programme and beyond.

WIS Grade 9 and 10 Student Life Coordinator Angelina Costa added:

"We are proud of our Grade 10 students and dedicated faculty. These results solidify WIS’s position as a leader in international education within Southern Africa. When you empower young people to think critically and globally, exceptional academic outcomes naturally follow."
