A “Frühstücks-Party” in the German Class

The Grade 7 German Foreign Language students recently wrapped up their unit on "Essen und Trinken" (Food and Beverages). After practicing how to read, write, and speak about breakfast, lunch, dinner, and favorite foods in German, the class celebrated with a very fitting activity: a shared German breakfast.

Each student contributed something-freshly baked treats, fruit, or other delicious additions-turning the classroom into what one student described as a real “Frühstücks-Party.” Even dietary needs were considered, with gluten-free pancakes and muffins on the table, which surprised everyone by tasting just as good as their “normal” counterparts.

While enjoying the food, the students also reflected on healthy eating choices. Together, they agreed that fruit, yogurt, and balanced options make a better start to the day than sweets alone. The breakfast was not only about eating but also about learning together in a practical, memorable way.

The morning ended with plenty of laughter, photos, and the promise of more German-in-action experiences. In their upcoming lessons, students will create dialogues in German based on their breakfast. Ideas for the future include baking with German recipes and even visiting a German café to practice ordering food authentically.

The project demonstrated that learning a language extends beyond grammar and vocabulary. By linking the topic of food with a real breakfast, the students experienced how German can be used in everyday situations - making their learning both practical and memorable.
