A Farewell Filled with Gratitude

As I prepare to say goodbye to the Windhoek International School community, I find myself reflecting on what this place has meant to me professionally and personally.
WIS is not simply a school I have worked in. It has been a community I have grown within. It has challenged my thinking, strengthened my practice, and consistently reminded me of what education looks like when it is grounded in care, high expectations, and a genuine belief in children. There is a particular kind of energy here that comes from people who are committed not only to learning, but to one another.
What I will carry with me most, however, is not only the work we have done together, but the way this community has welcomed my family. Moving schools and countries is never just a professional transition. It is a life transition. My children have been embraced by their teachers and peers in ways that have made this place feel like home. That sense of belonging for them has meant more to me than I can easily express.
To the teachers, support staff, leadership, and wider community: thank you. Thank you for your generosity of spirit, your professionalism, your humour on the hard days, and your willingness to keep showing up for children even when the work is complex. It is easy to talk about international education in abstract terms, but here it is lived every day in classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and conversations that matter.
I have also appreciated the trust placed in me to contribute to the Primary School. Working alongside such committed educators has been a privilege. There is a strong culture here of reflection and improvement, and it is clear that people care deeply about getting it right for learners.
As I move on to the next chapter, I do so with a full heart and a strong sense of gratitude. WIS will remain an important part of my professional journey, and I will carry the lessons, relationships, and shared experiences with me.
I wish the school continued success in all that lies ahead. More importantly, I wish the community continued joy in what it does best: creating a place where children are known, supported, and encouraged to thrive.
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of it.
